7-second boot time

Can you imagine a computer that boots up in 7 seconds? It's hard to think about in a world where we are accustomed to a computer taking several minutes to turn . However, that's what Google claims their new operating system can do in an article released on CNN: Google OS: the end of the hard-drive?

This new operating system will primarily be installed on what are termed "Netbooks" - basically lightweight, cheap laptops that only do one thing well: browse the internet and run Software-as-a-service applications. As you're shopping this holiday season, keep an eye out for these devices which are usually in the $200-$300 range and now available at retailers like Wal-Mart and Best-buy. They make great gifts for kids or for a secondary computer that is suited for a kitchen.
